Portuguese Water Dog

The Portuguese Water Dog is a sturdy, working breed that historically accompanied Portuguese fishermen along the coast of the Algarve, herding fish into nets and retrieving gear. They are excellent swimmers with a curly or wavy water-resistant coat. Intelligent and energetic, they gained widespread popularity after being chosen as the White House dog by President Barack Obama.
